Dell Cinemastream
Don't let Buffering
ruin your movie.

I collaborated with VML to create a series of Digital Out-of-Home animations for Dell. From our first conversation, we decided to take a practical, "in-camera" approach. While the agency provided the initial layouts, they gave me the creative freedom to experiment with the textures and designs for each iconic film reference.

Star Wars: I added a "metal-scape" texture to the layout, inspired by the hull of an Imperial Star Destroyer. To achieve this effect, I mounted gloss-black vinyl onto a matte-black Plexiglass base. I then laser-cut openings for the dial and mounted "Empire Red" gels behind them to create a glowing, cinematic finish.
The Sixth Sense: To capture the eerie atmosphere of the film, I needed to create a tunnel of light and "otherworldly" rays. I hand-cut a custom light shaper out of Blackwrap and placed it in front of a single light source to project a "#6" shadow with concentric rays. After filling the studio with spray smoke to catch the light beams, I captured the final atmospheric shot.
Fight Club: I fabricated a custom pink soap bar featuring a relief-style dial. To animate the "spinning" dial effect, I physically shaved down the soap in precise increments between frames.
While the primary assets were captured practically, all three pieces were polished and brought to life in post-production using a variety of animation techniques.
