The Letter L

Many of the English language’s most evocative words begin with the letter L,
I created this series to explore their physical and conceptual weight.
In addition to shooting the series, I fabricated and styled each piece.

We began with a vector concept for each word and a bespoke typeface and fabrication technique for every image. The process was an exercise in material experimentation:

Lust: To create the barbed wire, I hand-shaped soft aluminum wire and finished it with a specialized rustable paint.
Lasers: Driving a pound of nails into a board required drilling hundreds of precision pilot holes using a Dremel and a custom-printed template.
Lies: To build a realistic honeycomb, I used hexagonal pencil stubs to create the positive and negative forms, which were then molded and cast to create the hero prop.
Love: Folding over 350 dollar-bill origami hearts was a massive team effort, utilizing online folding guides to ensure consistency.

What attracts me most to this work is bringing these objects into the "real" world. Working with physical props allows for spontaneous improvements on set, resulting in images that are truly memorable.
I find the "flaws" of real-world materials particularly compelling—they provide a level of personality and uniqueness that digital assets often lack.

While the series includes a custom-designed logo originally planned as a physical installation, we ultimately kept it as a vector asset.

You can see a timelapse of a test where we envisioned how that installation would live in a real-world setting.
